The 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit was a sign of the times and test to see who is still in the game, who is on the sidelines, and who has left the stadium.
This year’s NAIAS show was a tale of two stories. First there is the story of finding a solution to the rising cost of oil as the reality of $4 per gallon gasoline nears; and then there is the story of the most significant auto show in America and a long list of reveals.
We are in the midst of a coupe coup and the winner is the American driver. Thrity years ago, coupes accounted for 25% of vehicle sales. That number declined to less than 5% in 2004. Today, coupes are on the rebound.
The answer is yes. Gas prices have come back down to Earth and GM is dealing on their awesome SUVs. As far as full-size SUVs, Chevy and GMC are at the top of my list.
